The upcoming Nintendo Switch successor–most probably to be launched as ‘Nintendo Switch 2’) will be backwards compatible with the Switch software, Nintendo President and CEO Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed in a post on X.
The CEO of the Japanese video game company also confirmed that the Switch successor will support Nintendo Switch Online.
In a post on the official Nintendo investor relations account on X, Nintendo CEO Shuntaro Furukawa said that “Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch.”
“Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date”, Furukawa added in the post.
Rumours about the successor to Nintendo Switch getting backwards compatibility support have been floating around for quite some time now. In early September, industry insider Nate the Hate claimed on Reddit that the next Nintendo Switch console will be backwards compatible with the Switch software. Switch controller and accessories maker Mobapad had also made the same claim before Nate the Hate.
The Nintendo Music app
Nintendo recently launched a new app called Nintendo Music through which you can listen to Nintendo soundtracks on your smart devices. On the Nintendo Music app, you can stream songs online and listen to them offline as well by downloading them.
As a Nintendo Music app user, you can “loop songs or extend select tracks to 15, 30 or 60 minutes for uninterrupted listening”. Nintendo says that on the Nintendo Music app, you can filter out soundtracks that may ruin certain moments of the games by giving out spoilers.
Nintendo Music was launched at no additional cost for Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members in the US and Canada.
