Cupertino-based tech giant Apple launched its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset early in 2024, delivering arguably the most advanced virtual reality (VR) experience. However, its asking price of $3500 and a lack of a gaming ecosystem meant that the device has struggled to make its mark in the gaming space. This could change soon thanks to a new potential partnership between Apple and PlayStation maker Sony.

Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, in his new Power On newsletter, mentioned that the Vision Pro could soon gain support for Sony PSVR2 controllers. These controllers can be accurately tracked and have 6 degrees of freedom, making them ideal for use with the Vision Pro. Moreover, Apple has contacted third-party developers to encourage the adoption of VR controllers for its headset.

Gurman has also mentioned that both companies were expected to officially confirm the compatibility weeks ago, but some technical snags have effectively delayed the announcement. Further, Sony is expected to sell the PlayStation VR 2 controller separately via Apple’s online storefront and other official retail stores.
