Google has finally revealed the launch timeline of Android 16 and it is coming earlier than expected. Sameer Samat, President of the Android Ecosystem, confirmed the news to Android Police at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025.
“So far, so good,” Samat said. “There are always some bugs to fix, but the team is working hard, and we’re excited to get it ready on time.”
Google has changed the way it develops Android. Instead of different teams working separately and merging their work later, everyone is now contributing to the same version from the start, as per the report. This new approach, called “Trunk Stable,” makes the process smoother and helps fix issues faster.
“In the past, we used to combine everything in June, and then it took months to sort out problems,” Samat told the publication. “Now, we’re trying to get ahead of that.”
Google has been updating Android more frequently in recent years. Instead of waiting for big updates, many new features are now released in smaller updates throughout the year.
“We want people to feel like their phones are always improving,” Samat said. “Some features need a big system update, but others can be rolled out more regularly.”
Right now, Android 16 is in its second beta stage, with Beta 2.1 available on Pixel phones. Google will reveal more details at its Google I/O event on May 20, and the final version should be ready by the end of June.
