The good news for Indian cricket fans is that Shreyas Iyer, who sustained an impact injury on his rib and was sent into ICU at a hospital in Sydney, is on the road to recovery. BCCI shared an official update on Iyer's health status on Tuesday evening.
"Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia.
"The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested. His condition is now stable, and he continues to be under observation. A repeat scan done on Tuesday, 28th October, has shown significant improvement, and Shreyas is on the road to recovery. The BCCI Medical Team, in consultation with specialists in Sydney and India, will continue to monitor his progress," the second update BCCI on Iyer's health read.

Iyer had injured his left lower rib cage while taking a catch during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. The incident happened when Iyer was positioned at backward point and he ran backward before plunging into a dive to dismiss wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey off Harshit Rana's bowling.
However, he dived, he landed awkwardly on his elbows and ribs, basically his left side. After taking the catch, he was in extreme pain, clutching his ribs as he was taken back to the pavillion by the medical staff.
Iyer was not required to bat as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli shared a match-winning partnership and helped India win the match by nine wickets.
The middle-order batter amassed 72 runs from two innings in the three-match ODI series, including a valiant 77-ball 61 in the second encounter in Adelaide. He was then involved in a century stand with Rohit.
The latest injury setback for Iyer puts his participation in South Africa ODIs, starting from November 30 at home in doubt.
