Dinesh Lad, Rohit Sharma's childhood coach, expressed his satisfaction on Saturday following the star batter's knock and India's victory over Australia in the third ODI. He also said that the seasoned opener will retire following his participation in the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
During the third ODI in Sydney, Rohit scored his 50th international century and finished as the leading run-getter in the just-concluded series against Australia.
His powerful 121* and the partnership with longtime teammate Virat Kohli in possibly their final appearance together on Australian soil, captivated the stadium's full crowd throughout India's chase of 237.
"The way Rohit batted today and how he contributed to India's win it felt great to watch today's match. He will play the 2027 ODI World Cup and retire after that," Dinesh Lad said.
Lad claimed there are often misconceptions about Virat, who recovered with a fine unbeaten 74 following two consecutive ducks in Perth and Adelaide.

"There are misunderstandings about Virat every day. He is someone who can thrive anytime and anywhere. The way he played today, it feels good. Sachin had said in a function way back that Rohit and Virat would be the players who would break his records. Both getting closer to his records feels really good," he added.
With 202 runs, including a century and a fifty, Rohit led the series in scoring and was named both "Player of the Match" and "Player of the Series."
Following an emotional third ODI encounter at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Indian stalwarts Rohit and Virat are scheduled to return for the ODI series against South Africa, which starts on November 30.
The first ODI between India and South Africa is set for November 30 in Ranchi; the second ODI will take place in Raipur on December 3; and the third and final match will take place in Visakhapatnam on December 6.
