Richa Ghosh was one of the key players in India's 2025 Women's World Cup victory. She is only 22, yet has already come to represent a new, fearless generation that wants to win international trophies rather than just compete.

That breakthrough is now expected to be etched into the hills of North Bengal. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, has announced plans to name a new cricket stadium in Darjeeling district after Richa Ghosh. This might make it the first cricket stadium in India to be named after a woman cricketer.

Speaking at the wicketkeeper-batter's felicitation ceremony, Banerjee noted that the state has requested the local mayor to create designs for a cricket stadium on about 27 acres of land in the district. She suggested that the stadium be called "Richa Cricket Stadium" in order for future generations to remember and be motivated by her achievement.
