Prithvi Shaw was one of the most gifted and promising batters as a youngster. However, by his own admission of getting into bad company, Shaw has fallen behind the ranks and has now spent a significant period away from the top level of Indian cricket. Despite this, he has still managed to keep the cricket enthusiast hooked to his career trajectory.
The latest development from Shaw's career path is his switch from Mumbai to Maharashtra, where he is determined to get better and have another chance at the top. Shaw requested for a NOC from the Mumbai Cricket Association last month, which was immediately granted. The Maharashtra Cricket Association has confirmed that the 25-year-old will play state-level cricket for the squad headed by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
"At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer. I am deeply grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support I have received over the years," Shaw said in a statement after his switch.
Shaw continued by saying that one of the main reasons he believes the move will help him is the "progressive setup" that Maharashtra cricket can offer, free from the pressure and expectations that come with playing cricket in Mumbai. Maharashtra gives Shaw a new start as he recently lost his spot in the Ranji team to players like Ayush Mhatre, who is a teenager.
Regarding the players he hoped to see again, Shaw stated: "I'm confident that being part of such a progressive setup will positively impact my journey as a cricketer. I’m happy to get the opportunity to play alongside talented players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, Rahul Tripathi, Rajneesh Gurbani, and Mukesh Choudhary in the Maharashtra team.”

Shaw hasn't played international cricket in almost four years and was released by the Delhi Capitals following the 2024 IPL season. Nonetheless, Shaw still has time to improve his physical and cerebral strategy as he is just 25.
Looking forward to the move, Maharashtra Cricket president Rohit Pawar said: "We are delighted to welcome a player of Prithvi Shaw’s caliber to the Maharashtra team. His inclusion adds tremendous strength to an already talented squad comprising experienced players. Shaw’s international and IPL experience will be invaluable, especially for mentoring younger players in the squad.”
