Chawla, who played for India in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, took more than 1000 wickets in all forms during his career. Chawla spent six years playing for India, taking 43 wickets in three Test matches, twenty-five ODIs, and seven T20Is before his final appearance in 2012.

After Sachin Tendulkar (16y 205d), Chawla is still India's second youngest male debutant in the format. He was 17 years and 75 days old when he made his Test debut against England in March 2006.
