The growing military tension between India and Pakistan prompted one week suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Friday. With 58 games played, the 59th match between the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings was abandoned midway at Dharamsala on Thursday due to air raid sirens in the nearby city of Pathankot. There is still increasing doubt about how long the suspension would last, even though the BCCI has announced an initial one week halt.
Franchises have responded to the postponement by starting to refund tickets for the remaining games they had planned. One of the first to confirm the development was Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team, which was scheduled to play the Kolkata Knight Riders at home on Saturday, declared on social media that ticket reimbursements would be started shortly.

"UPDATE: In light of the current situation, IPL 2025 has been suspended with immediate effect. Ticket refund details will be communicated shortly,” read a statement from SRH on X.
Following suit, the Lucknow Super Giants announced that their May 9 home game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru had been canceled. “Update: Tonight’s match at BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium has been cancelled. Details regarding ticket refunds will follow,” the franchise posted.
The increased border situation has resulted in a number of significant sporting interruptions. The Neeraj Chopra Classic that was supposed to take place in Bengaluru on May 24, has been postponed indefinitely.
Uncertainty surrounds the rest of the season, including playoff scheduling and team travel arrangements, as there is no indication of when the IPL may return. As worries about national security have grown, players, officials, and spectators safety has come first. The BCCI verified on Friday night that the Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings players had arrived in Delhi safely via train.
In recent days, a large number of prominent celebrities and cricket players have shown their support for the Indian military on social media. Fans and teams alike are preparing for a longer disruption than previously anticipated, even though the BCCI has not yet released an updated timetable or resumption plans.
