In spite of his outstanding performance, Abhishek Sharma faced criticism from his idol and mentor, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, for his dismissal. Yuvraj commended Abhishek's record-breaking batting performance in Hyderabad but also criticised him for the manner of his dismissal. Abhishek attempted to pull a short ball from Piyush Chawla, but was caught by Naman Dhir at deep mid-wicket.

Yuvraj posted on X, "Waah sir Abhishek waah (clap emoji) great innings but what a splendid shot to get out on! Laaton ke bhoot baaton se nahi maante! Special (slipper emoji) waiting for you now
@IamAbhiSharma4."
