India defeated Australia in semifinal of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 on Tuesday (March 4) by 4 wickets to book their berth in the finals. Chasemaster Virat Kohli scored a solid 84 off 98 balls enroute chase of 265 helping India secure a comfortable victory.
Batting first, Australia posted 264 in 49.3 overs, with Steve Smith leading the charge with a 73-run knock off 96 balls. Smith formed two key partnerships—adding 50 runs with Travis Head (39) for the second wicket and 56 runs with Marnus Labuschagne (29) for the third. Alex Carey also contributed a crucial half-century.
In response, India chased down the target with 11 balls to spare. Kohli anchored the innings with a 98-ball 84, while Shreyas Iyer (45), KL Rahul (42), and Hardik Pandya (28) provided valuable support to steer India to victory in the first semifinal.

Chakavarthy cures 'Headache' for India
Few batters have a higher fortune quotient than Head and his cameo of 39 had several slices of fortune — a dropped catch by Shami off his own bowling in the first legal delivery of the match, a near run-out, and a couple of inside edges that missed the stumps by a whisker.
Amidst all that, Head played some delightful shots such as a flicked six off Hardik Pandya and three fours in succession of Shami. Varun Chakaravarthy came to India's rescue saving them from the 'Headache' the Aussie batters often likes to cause to the Indians. Chakravarthy trapped the left-hander as the Aussie gave-in catch to running-in Shubman Gill in the deep.
Steve Smith stands tall
Indian bowlers were good but Steve Smith scored 73 in 96 balls to keep his side alive in the contest. Smith was the pillar of Australian innings as he was involved in three 50 stands — with Travis Head, Marnus Labuschagne and Alex Carey.
Gill once again falls for single digit
After the century against Bangladesh, Shubman Gill has struggled to continue his rich form. In the game against Australia, he fell early after chopping the ball onto his own stumps.

Chasemaster Virat Kohli was once again at his level best as he cruised India to a comfortable position with Shreyas Iyer after his side lost Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill in the powerplay. Kohli top-scored with 84 as India secured a spot in the Champions Trophy final with a four-wicket victory over Australia on Tuesday.
