At the base of the sands of the riverbank a great story of survival starts. The river turtles tuck the eggs which have been laid in nests rigorously selected by the females with the hope that someday.

Their civilization will reach the water. However, in most cases, the odds are not in their favor as fewer than half of the hatchlings are likely to have made it to their first year.

Peril on Land and in Water

After the eggs are hatched small turtles have to resort to a frantic race to the river. Predators such as birds and lizards usually prostrate themselves. It is not always enough to get to the water. Within the river, the hunt is still carried on by fish, frogs and bigger turtles.
