Skygazers have an exciting event to look forward to. The first solar eclipse of 2025 will appear later this month. This partial eclipse, known as Surya Grahan, is one of only two solar eclipses expected this year.
Eclipse Date and Timing
The solar eclipse will take place on Saturday, 29 March 2025. According to timeanddate.com, it will begin at around 4:50 a.m. EDT and peak at 6:47 a.m. EDT. The event is expected to end by 8:43 a.m. EDT.
In India, the eclipse will start at approximately 2:20 p.m. IST. The peak will occur at 4:17 p.m., and it will end by 6:13 p.m. However, due to its timing, the eclipse will not be visible from India. The best views will be in North America, where the event aligns perfectly with daylight hours.
Where Will the Eclipse Be Visible?
The partial solar eclipse will be seen from various parts of the world. Observers in Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, South America, and parts of the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans will witness the celestial event.
NASA explains that a solar eclipse happens when the moon moves between the sun and the Earth. This blocks some or all of the sun’s light, creating a shadow. In a partial eclipse, the sun, moon, and Earth do not align perfectly. As a result, only part of the sun appears covered.
During total or annular eclipses, people outside the main shadow can still see a partial eclipse. This makes partial solar eclipses more widely visible than total ones.
