The future is knocking, and it’s walking on two legs. Meet Walker S2, a humanoid robot that might outwork your average office worker—without needing a coffee break.
A Self-Sufficient Robot Built for Long Hours
Walker S2 is built by UBTECH, a Chinese firm. It stands 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 43 kilograms. Its size is similar to a small adult human. The robot uses a 48-volt lithium battery system. This setup allows it to walk for two hours straight. If left standing, it lasts around four hours. When power runs low, the robot doesn’t wait for help.
What sets it apart is its self-charging ability. In new footage posted on YouTube on July 17, the robot shows this clever skill. It walks to a battery station without human help. Facing away from the charger, it removes the battery from its back. The used pack is placed in a slot to recharge. Then it takes a new battery and fits it into place.
First Robot to Change Its Own Power Supply
UBTECH says this battery-swap system is the first of its kind. The robot can fully recharge its battery in 90 minutes. With this system, Walker S2 can work day and night. In theory, it could run nonstop for an entire week. This makes it useful for tasks that need long hours. From patrolling buildings to working at events, it won’t need to pause often.
Walker S2 might not be a household name yet. But it’s already showing what robots can do when left on their own.
