Kharmas 2025 will begin on December 16, 2025, marking a phase in Hindu astrology when auspicious activities are traditionally put on hold. According to astrological beliefs, Kharmas starts when Surya Dev (the Sun) enters the Sagittarius zodiac sign, a transition believed to reduce the Sun’s active influence. This is why major ceremonies and new beginnings are avoided during this period.

Kharmas is also known as Malmas, occurs twice a year when the Sun transits Sagittarius or Pisces, both ruled by Guru (Jupiter or Brihaspati). Scriptures and astrological traditions suggest that during this time, the Sun rests under Jupiter’s influence, leading to a pause in auspicious worldly activities. Instead, the period is considered ideal for spiritual practices, charity and self-discipline.
