A myriad of events unfolded during Donald Trump’s tumultuous interview at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) convention, yet a seemingly minor incident with a water bottle has captured the public’s attention.
A video of former US President Donald Trump adjusting the water bottle cap at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago became viral. Social media users suggested Trump tightened the cap in response to a challenge from ABC's Rachel Scott, who questioned why Black voters should support him considering his previous remarks about Black individuals and journalists.
X later added community notes clarifying that Trump initially attempted to open the bottle but then set it aside before drinking from it. The bottle in question was intended for Rachel, with Trump's own bottle positioned on his right side.
Here are the reactions from netizens.
An X user said, "Trump just took the ABC reporter's water bottle."
"WHY did Donald Trump mess with Rachel's water bottle? Was he upset with her questions? Did he think tightening the lid would stop her from asking questions?" a user wrote while sharing the clip.
"Racist Donald Trump was seen grabbing a black female journalist’s bottle of water and tightening the cap after she turned around. He was pissed and frustrated with her, because she was asking him questions he didn’t like," another user wrote.
"Donald Trump was angry they didn't give him a water bottle so he took hers but his is right there on the table to his right he didn't notice it. This is his second watergate event," commented a user.
The interview was disastrous, with Trump clashing with the journalists. He criticised them for being late and described them as 'disgraceful.' He then questioned whether Kamala Harris was Black or Indian and claimed she never passed her bar exam. Additionally, he suggested that millions of people from across the border would take up 'Black jobs.'
