General Electric's chairman and chief executive officer Jeff Immelt said it was too early to know what impact the nuclear power crisis in Japan would have on the nuclear power industry.
"Its early days, let people do exploration of what happened and let it take its course," he said. "Our first priority is to support the government and people of Japan," he said, adding that GE will donate USD 5 million to the relief effort and is also offering technical assistance to Hitachi to avert nuclear crisis. Ensuring safety of all GE employees in Japan, Immelt said the company was shielded from liability in Japan. Further, talking about the company's India plans, he said the organisational restructuring here had been successful and top leaders from GE were in India to discuss strategy going forward. "We will be a small yet focused player in India," he added. Meanwhile, Immelt is emphatic that GE is a long-term player in India. He says GE has identified two manufacturing sites in India and is targeting an investment of USD 200 million initially in India.Discover the latest Business News, Sensex, and Nifty updates.
