E. Coli outbreak linked to McDonald's quarter pounders: 1 dead, 49 fall ill, shares slide

An E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers has resulted in one death and 49 illnesses across 10 U.S. states, with Colorado reporting the most cases. The outbreak involves the dangerous E. coli O157 strain, which caused a deadly 1993 incident at Jack in the Box. Investigators are focusing on fresh onions and beef patties as potential sources. McDonald's has removed these ingredients from affected stores and temporarily suspended Quarter Pounders in impacted areas. The outbreak has caused a 6% drop in McDonald's shares and may pressure U.S. cattle futures due to reduced beef demand.
