It's pouring good news: Met department holds up forecast

Speaking to CNBC-TV18, IMD Head-Long Range Forecasting DS Pai said around 80 percent of country has received normal or above-normal rainfall and Central India has had 18 percent above normal rain in July.

After a considerable period of incessant rainfalls, the Meterological Department has held up its forecast of 106 percent +/- 4 percent for this year. IMD will come out with its August monsoon forecast on Monday evening. 

Speaking to CNBC-TV18, IMD Head-Long Range Forecasting DS Pai said around 80 percent of country has received normal or above-normal rainfall and Central India has had 18 percent above normal rain in July.

Not just this, reservoir levels are 5-10 percent above the 10-year average.

However, some of the states were at the losing end depsite the unrelenting showers of rain, said IMD reports. Parts of West Rajasthan, Gujarat and Odisha have experienced deficient rainfall, Pai added.For entire interview, watch accompanying video.
