Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar was declared a global terrorist by the United Nations on Wednesday. All of India celebrated the development. Political parties cutting across ideologies hailed the move, especially since India has been pushing for a ban against the terrorist for nearly a decade.
The UN Sanctions Committee was able to designate Azhar a global terrorist after China finally lifted its veto on the proposal to ban the terror attack mastermind. The JeM leader was blacklisted over ties of him and his outfit with terror group Al-Qaeda.
Notably, the JeM is responsible for conducting multiple terror attacks on Indian soil, including the dastardly Pulwama fidayeen attack that killed 40 CRPF troopers.
Now, despite political differences, almost everyone in the Indian National Congress party hailed the UN decision, save its senior leader Kamal Nath. Not like he wasn’t happy with the blacklisting, but the veteran leader could not stop surmising about the well-timed move, which came right while the national elections are on in the country.
Speaking to news agency ANI, he said: “It was long due, it is good that it has been done. This should have happened a long time ago. This has happened during elections, I don't know if this has something to do with the elections".
Nath hinting at a possible link between the elections and the UN move irked several Twitter users, and the social media site was flooded with sarcastic replies.
