Mr Baker: Mr Baker just turned 100 years old. Started in 1922, Mr Baker is small with simple interiors. It is known for its delicious bebinca (7-layered cake), batica, perada (guava cheese), beef croquettes, rissois (prawn pockets) and farm-fresh nero.

History is writ on the wall with old photographs and if you bump into Nathan Fernandes, the owner, he will tell you of its beginnings and of his grandfather who brought cake moulds from Germany. Perhaps a first for Goa. Listen to him when he says: Calories do not count on weekends.

Marietta Bar & Restaurant: Doris Rodrigues is 84, and for 57 years she has been manning the kitchen of Moti’s Marietta Bar & Restaurant that was established in 1964. Her son, Estevo Francesco Rodrigues now runs the bar/restaurant famous for beef cutlets (Rs 100 each), steak (Rs 180), and the alcohol. No cocktails here.
