Toxic manager sparks outrage, tells employee only ‘death in family’ excuses absence after car accident

A viral post on X (formerly Twitter) has stirred widespread outrage over the callousness of a manager’s response to an employee who had survived a severe car accident. The post, shared by user @kirawontmiss, featured a screenshot of a text conversation in which the manager appears indifferent to the employee's well-being, focusing solely on their attendance at work.

The conversation began with the employee sending their manager a photo of their heavily damaged car, following what seems to have been a serious accident. Instead of expressing concern or asking if the employee was safe, the manager's reply was simply, "Keep me updated on what time you're expecting to be here."

The indifferent response was followed by another message the next day, stating, "It's understandable why you would be late, but regardless anything that prevents you from being at the workplace other than a death in the family is unexcused at any company."

The exchange, which has garnered over 21 million views, has left social media users shocked and outraged by the manager’s insensitivity. The post also prompted numerous comments from users sharing their own experiences of dealing with unsympathetic managers.

One user expressed disbelief at the manager's cold reaction, writing, “Managers like this scare me, like is your life that miserable?!” Another user recounted a similar experience, stating, “I told my manager I had Covid and he said he didn’t believe me.”
