The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on September 22 a total prize money of $10 million for the upcoming Cricket ODI World Cup 2023, scheduled to take place in India from October 5 to November 19.
This prize pool will be distributed among various categories, including the champions, runners-up, semi-finalists, and teams eliminated during the group stage.
The winners of the World Cup 2023 will be awarded $4 million, while the runners-up team will receive $2 million. Both losing semi-finalists will get $800,000 each, and every group stage victory will earn $40,000 to the respective team.
The 2023 edition will feature 10 teams competing across 10 different venues in India with the final scheduled at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. The semi-final matches will take place in Mumbai and Kolkata.
The tournament's group stage will conclude on November 12 with a total of 44 matches to be played in 10 host cities - Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune. The opening match, featuring England and New Zealand, is set to kick off on October 5 in Ahmedabad. Warm-up matches prior to the tournament will be held in Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, and Hyderabad.
Anticipation is high for India, which has not clinched the World Cup title since 2013. A provisional 15-member Indian team for the upcoming tournament was announced by the BCCI on September 5.
The Indian team announced by Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma is: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya (VC), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd Shami, and Mohd Siraj.
