Accountancy Profession: Catalyst to sustained eco growth

CA Amarjit Chopra, President, ICAI says, "Accountancy Profession: Catalyst to Sustained Economic Growth is an international conference. This particular international conference in view of the present international issues and accounting and auditing both assumes great significance, there are issues concerning corporate governance as well. I think nobody can deny that accountants have a tremendous role to play when it comes to the sustained economic development. I can say with a lot of pride that when the world over there was a slowdown, not even a slowdown, there was a recession, the banks after banks world over failed, whether it was US, UK, German everywhere, the Indian banking systems stood the test of time. What could be more important is ofcourse one should give all the credit to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the government. But I think part of this credit can definitely be taken by the Indian accountancy profession. I am glad to say that Indian accountancy profession performed tremendously well in those days."

He further says, "All accountancy profession should be seen as preventers of the corruption under all circumstances. I think at that particular point of time we shall be able to hold our head high and say, yes, we are there to render a service to the society. I can assure you on the behalf of the entire institute, our contingent of 1,68,000 members and 6,50,000 above students that we will leave no stone unturned to make sure that we are providing service to the society and the nation and at the international arena which is desired of us."
