Ryan Gosling has released a strongly-worded statement in response to Barbie director Greta Gerwig and star Margot Robbie not being nominated in two major Oscar categories, despite him receiving a nomination in the best supporting actor category.

The actor, who played Ken in the blockbuster movie said it was an “understatement” to say he was “disappointed” that Gerwig and Robbie were not nominated in their respective categories.

“Their work should be recognised along with the other very deserving nominees,” he said. "Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history."

Ryan Gosling, however, also thanked the Academy Awards for his nomination. "And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken," he said.
