A costume party in Russia has sparked outrage for its ‘almost naked’ dress code and alleged violations of the country’s anti-LGBTQ laws.
The event was hosted by popular Russian influencer Anastasia Ivleeva who charged $11,000 for a ticket, according to Newsweek. The guest list included high-profile celebrities, influencers and the rumoured goddaughter of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The theme for the event was "nude illusion." Photos shared on social media shows attendees dressed in mesh dresses, sheer outfits and skin-toned ensembles.
Among those who attended were Russian celebrities such as pop star Philipp Kirkorov, singer Lolita Milyavskaya and rapper Vacio, who, according to The Washington Post, wore only a sock. But it was the presence of Putin’s rumoured goddaughter Ksenia Sobchak that raised the most eyebrows.
Sobchak, a TV personality and 2018 presidential candidate, is the daughter of Anatoly Sobchak, who was a mentor to Putin.
However, critics of the raunchy gathering say it went against Russia’s traditional conservative values. Some have called it tone-deaf that the event took place in the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war, where Russian casulaties have surpassed 300,000.
Russian lawmakers Dmitry Gusev and Maria Butina are among those who criticised the almost-naked party and have called on the police to verify whether the country’s anti-LGBTQ laws were violated during the event. Butina said she had asked Russia's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Culture to investigate if the party violated a decree outlining "traditional Russian spiritual and moral values."
Other Kremlin-aligned individuals and groups have called for a boycott of everyone who attended the party.
