While Mumbai’s culinary landscape is used to witnessing new restaurant launches every few months, but the last few have seen it reach a delicious frenzy. In less than 60 days, the city has seen a plethora of new eateries crop up that cater to varied palates.
From rustic trattorias, small kitchens, massive club-restobars, to avant-garde bistros, the stage is set for a feast of epic proportions this year, and all are invited. Here are five new restaurants that have come up in quick succession across the city:
Mool: Kitchen & Bar, Fort
What makes Mool: Kitchen & Bar stand out from other south Mumbai eateries is it’s straight from the heart food, curated from every corner of our country to the serving table. This authentic, unpretentious fine dine restaurant spread across 3,000 sq. ft serves vegetarian, non-vegetarian, vegan and Jain options. What stands out is the owners Dipti Shetty and Mithilesh Shetty’s commitment to ensuring that the culinary legacy of home chefs from remote areas of our country is celebrated.
With every order at Mool, a portion of the proceeds goes back to the original recipe owners of lesser-known dishes. Some of their signature items include Ahuna Mutton, the traditional mutton curry from Jharkhand served with steamed sticky rice, Pauri, a Tequila-based cocktail flavoured with Rhododendron flowers from Uttarakhand, and the dessert Kola Bhator Payok, the Forbidden Black Rice Pudding from Assam.
Maiz Mexican Kitchen, Lower Parel
If you are looking at fresh, fast and flavorful food, Maiz Mexican Kitchen at Phoenix Palladium, Lower Parel could be your go to. Especially if you like to customise your burritos and burrito bowls. This 35-seater, 500 sq. feet of space founded-owned by Veer Bhartiya offers vegetarian, vegan as well as non-vegetarian food. Signature dishes include Chipotle Chicken/Paneer Burrito bowl, and warm, crisp Chocolate S'mores Quesadilla.
Mag St., Bandra
Bandra’s Mag St., a casual all-day fine dine restaurant offers American, Italian, European, Asian, Vietnamese cuisine. They’ve graduated from neighbourhood cafe to a full-fledged restaurant that also boasts of an expansive bar setup. Gauri Devidayal and Jay Yousuf's culinary venture offers Mag St. Handcut Truffle Fries, Lobster Roll, Moli Cake, Pizzas, Norwegian Salmon, Buff & Frites, Pho by Head Chef Nikhil Abhyankar.
Their signature desserts include Gooey Chocolate Brownie and Classic Tres Leches.
Lucy Lou All Day, Andheri
Andheri’s Lucy Lou All Day is all about sass and sophistication and is spread across 12,000 sq. ft of club and al fresco sitting of 230 cover. Serving modern Indian, Turkish and Pan-Asian, vegetarian, non-vegetarian and vegan. Signature dishes including Turkish-style kebabs, Neapolitan pizzas and Turkish pides, Adana kebab, wild mushroom pide, crispy prawn cheung fun, and butter chicken samosa are a must-try. Instantly instagrammable drinks like Alphonso Sago cocktail, Los Santos and Spicy Red Hot Chilli Peppers cocktail are a few of the favourites.
Shelter, Versova
Versova’s Shelter by Javaphile, a two-storey, plus rooftop, establishment spread across 1,154 sq. ft, with minimalist décor and innovative fusion cuisine, promises to be a playground for the senses, where every bite is a revelation and every sip a journey into uncharted territory. Head chef Soumojit Sinha and head pastry chef Ameek Kaur’s culinary skills makes this all-day café a must-visit.
Some of their signature dishes include Beetroot Thecha Toast, Sourdough Poha, Tiramisu French Toast, Japanese Avocado and Seaweed Salad, Miso Salmon Bowl, Baked Rigatoni & Cheese, Hot Plate Halloumi, Burrata Shroom Burger, Dates and Pecan Slice, Carrot Cake, Apple Tart, Hazelnut Babka and others.
