In a significant update on her health, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales, has announced her return to public life amid her ongoing battle with cancer. Ahead of the Trooping the Colour parade this weekend, the Princess confirmed she will make her first public appearance at the annual royal event since her cancer diagnosis.
After several months away from the spotlight, Middleton revealed in a pre-recorded video on March 22 that she has been undergoing cancer treatment and had temporarily stepped back from her royal duties.
In an emotional statement released on Friday, the mother of three shared that her recovery journey has been a mix of "good days and bad days." She elaborated, saying, "I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days, you feel weak, tired, and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well."
Kate acknowledged that while she plans to attend the parade celebrating King Charles' birthday, she is still contending with her illness and often feels fatigued. "I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet," she said.
The Princess emphasised the importance of listening to her body to determine if she is ready to resume her royal responsibilities. She mentioned that she is learning patience, particularly in the face of uncertainty, by allowing herself the necessary time to heal.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed that Kate had personally informed King Charles of her intention to attend the event. "His Majesty is delighted that The Princess is able to attend tomorrow’s events and is much looking forward to all elements of the day," the spokesperson added.
In a letter to the Irish Guards last week, the Princess of Wales apologised for missing a crucial practice for the parade. Kate was named the honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards last year.
Since her surgery and cancer diagnosis, Kate has largely stayed out of the public eye. An insider previously told Us Weekly that she "may never come back in the role that people saw her in before."
