Badminton player Jwala Gutta was among those rescued on a boat in flood-hit Chennai along with actor Aamir Khan. Her husband, Tamil actor Vishnu Vishal, on Tuesday shared a photo of him, Khan and Gutta being brought to safety in a dinghy or a boat by the rescue personnel. The boat was being pushed by the rescue teams in a flooded street.
“Huge, huge respect to the emergency services, fire and rescue services who are working day n night to rescue people like us stranded in flooded communities,” Jwala Gutta, 40, wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
They even posed for a few photos after everyone was brought to a safe area.
Late Tuesday evening, Vishal shared a photo of him and Aamir Khan with actor Ajith Kumar who had visted them after they were rescued.
"After gettting to know our situation through a common friend, the ever helpful Ajith Sir came to check in on us and helped with travel arrangements for our villa community member. Love you Ajith Sir," he wrote.
Vishal’s photo of the Bollywood superstar on a rescue boat took X users by surprise, with many wondering if it was indeed Khan and what he was doing in Chennai.
Khan is living in the same apartment complex in Chennai’s Karapakkam as Vishal, news agency PTI reported, quoting industry insiders.
Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu minister for industries, TRB Rajaa, who thanked Vishal for his appreciation post, said he was astounded that Khan had waited his turn to be rescued, like any of the fellow citizens instead of pulling strings.
“Hats off to people like Thiru Khan for being sensitive to the scale of the issue at hand and patiently await their turn,” the minister wrote.
Two days after Cyclone Michuang wreaked havoc in Chennai and neighbouring districts, residents grappled with stagnant water and power disruption in parts of the city and its suburbs on Wednesday. Many users on X shared videos of residential localities still being surrounded by stagnant water, claiming many residents were stuck inside. The hashtag #Velachery was trending on the platform.
