'Jesus Christ' is now verified on Twitter. Yes, you read that right. A Twitter handle called @jesus has been verified after CEO Elon Musk’s $8 a month for blue tick plan rolled out and naturally, the person handling the account decided to pay up and get verified. The account was not verified before but has 7,82,000 followers and they follow no one.
The handle generally tweets funny things as Jesus Christ in the modern day may have said it and enjoys quite a fan following.
“Who has two thumbs and verified?” the account tweeted on November 9 after getting the blue tick.
The account even tweeted “this is a parody” after Musk said that “any handles engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying “parody” will be permanently suspended” some days back.
Now that "Christ" is verified, news reports have started flooding in and the handle has responded to one of those as well.
With a tag of “to whom it may concern”, the account tweeted quoting a news report “why the assumption I am fake?”
The account’s bio says: “Carpenter, Healer, God”, location is Israel and joined Twitter in October 2006.
Several parody accounts of celebrities, politicians and even corporations have come up on Twitter, impersonating them and claiming whatever they feel like.
For instance, a verified, parody account of former US President George W Bush is claiming that he misses “killing Iraqis” and former UK PM Tony Blair’s verified but parody account agrees.
Compared to fake news of insulin being free, “Jesus Christ”’s verified account seems harmless.
