A Bengaluru man who found a piece of metal in his shawarma ordered through Swiggy was even more stunned when the food delivery platform offered him a refund of just Rs 50. The Swiggy customer shared details of the incident in a Reddit post where he wrote about Swiggy blasé reaction to his complaint, sharing screenshots to bolster his case.

According to the post, Reddit user “sterlingcrises” ordered a chicken shawarma from Absolute Shawarma in Nagawara, Bengaluru. When he started eating his food, he bit down on something crispy, which he later realised was a piece of metal from the flame grill used to prepare the shawarma.

The Bengaluru man immediately reached out to Swiggy’s support team, requesting a full refund and “a new shawarma delivered to my doorstep without having to place an order through Swiggy again.” He also sought details of the action that would be taken against the restaurant.

Instead of complying with his demands or even apologising for the blatant food hygiene violation, the Swiggy customer support executive offered him a refund of Rs 50 on his bill of more than Rs 160.

“As a token of apology I can get you a refund of Rs 50. Shall I process the same?” asked the Swiggy agent. When the customer refused to accept the token amount offered in the name of an apology, Swiggy said his demands could not be fulfilled.

The irate customer pointed out that he could have “choked and died” and asked: “Is this how you treat your bloody customers?”
