Veteran actor Akhil Mishra, best known for his memorable roles in films like "3 Idiots" and "Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi," died today in his house in Mumbai. He was 67. The news was confirmed by his wife, Suzanne Bernert, who had been shooting for a project in Hyderabad at the time of the accident.
Mishra had been reportedly battling health issues related to blood pressure for some time. During the time of his death, he was in the kitchen when he lost his balance and suffered a severe head injury. He was discovered in a pool of blood and rushed to the hospital. He died a few hours later.
Mishra is known for his portrayal of Librarian Dubey, in "3 Idiots”; his comic turn in a small, supporting role has now become iconic. He was also a part of TV shows like "Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Se," "Uttaran," "Pardes Mein Mila Koi Apna," and "Shrimaan Shrimati," among others.
Suzanne Bernert, Mishra’s wife and a German actor, who starred in "The Accidental Prime Minister" had spoken about how her husband had put his own career on hold to assist her in mastering the nuances of Hindi.
In a statement to India Forums, Suzanne expressed her gratitude, saying, "All the characters that I played were foreigners who needed an accent. Fluency suddenly became an issue with my show 'Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat,' as I needed to be perfect, and my husband gave all his time and put his career on hold to help me on a daily basis to speak shudh Hindi."
