The announcement for the cast of a lead pair in a Bollywood film can be as exciting as the plot itself. Depending on the genre and the vision of the filmmaker, some unusual pairings can work just as well as the predictable ones. In the new year, there seem to be plenty of both. Here are some of the most-talked about fresh pairings of 2024.
Deepika Padukone-Hrithik Roshan in Fighter
One look at all the songs and snippets of the forthcoming Siddharth Anand-directorial will have you wondering why no one has thought of casting this good-looking couple earlier. Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan were officially announced as the lead pair of the action film in January 2021. The duo plays Indian Air Force pilots in the film which reportedly has a number of high-powered action sequences. The movie releasing on January 25, 2024 also stars Anil Kapoor and Akshaye Oberoi in pivotal roles.
Shahid Kapoor-Kriti Sanon in untitled film
In April this year, Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon wrapped up the shoot of their yet-untitled film. The tagline of the film reads ‘An impossible love story’ and has been directed by Amit Joshi and Aradhana Sah. Not much is known about the film except that it is a romance drama releasing on February 9 and also stars veteran actors Dharmendra and Dimple Kapadia.
Tripti Dimri-Vicky Kaushal in Mere Mehboob Mere Sanam
Fresh off the success of Animal, Tripti Dimri's next is a film with Sam Bahadur actor Vicky Kaushal. Directed by Anand Tiwari of Bandish Bandits fame, the romcom is produced by Karan Johar and is expected to release in February next year. In an interview with a magazine, Dimri who is being called the national crush after her Animal stint, has said that Kaushal is a very secure actor and really easy to work with.
Katrina Kaif-Vijay Sethupathi in Merry Christmas
Trust director Sriram Raghavan to come up with this pairing which seems absolutely unlikely but that is probably and precisely the reason the filmmaker must have chosen Kaif and Sethupathi to star in his forthcoming mystery thriller. Shot simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil, the film appears to be a story of one and the meeting of two strangers. Scheduled to release on January 12 in theatres, the film reportedly has a different set of co-actors for the two versions and is both Kaif and Sethupathi’s debut in Tamil.
Deepika Padukone-Prabhas in Kalki 2898 AD
Earlier titled Project K, this Nag Ashwin film (of Mahanati fame) which has been in the making for a long time brings together two of Bollywood and Tollywood’s biggest names. The sci-fi epic’s new title was revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con held earlier this year. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Disha Patani. ‘When the world is taken over by darkness, a new force will arise’, the teaser of the film states.
Siddharth Malhotra-Disha Patani in Yodha
After being delayed quite a few times, the Sidharth Malhotra-Disha Patani starrer Yodha is expected to release on March 15 in theatres. Directed by first-time filmmakers Sagar Ambre and Pushkar Ojha, Yodha is expected to be first film of a franchise and is the first-ever action film from Dharma Productions.
Vicky Kaushal-Rashmika Mandanna in Chhaava
Post the success of Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, Vicky Kaushal is collaborating once again with director Laxman Utekar for Chhaava where he plays the role of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The fresh pairing of Kaushal with Animal star Rashmika Mandanna promises to be one of the highlights of the film which is expected to release on December 6, 2024.
John Abraham-Manushi Chhillar in Tehran
Inspired by true events, John Abraham’s action thriller Tehran will see him paired opposite former Miss World Manushi Chhillar who made her debut with Samrat Prithviraj opposite Akshay Kumar and was seen this year in The Great Indian Family with Vicky Kaushal. Tehran produced by Maddock Films marks the directorial debut of ad filmmaker Arun Gopalan and is expected to release in theatres on April 26, 2024.
Shahid Kapoor-Pooja Hegde in Deva
The Kabir Singh actor will be seen opposite the Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan actress in the film directed by Rosshan Andrews. The thriller sees Kapoor playing the role of a cop who is investigating a case and gets embroiled in a game of deceit and lies. After Farzi and Bloody Daddy, this action thriller seems right up his alley.
Rajkummar Rao-Tripti Dimri in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video
A masala entertainer set in the 1990s, this Raaj Shandilyaa-directorial is a quirky family drama starring Rajkummar Rao and Tripti Dimri. Reportedly, it is about the chaos which ensues after an VHS tape containing an intimate video of the lead pair goes missing in a small town. A blend of humour and messaging with dollops of nostalgia, this one promises to be a fun ride.
