Tech billionaire Elon Musk has found it "concerning" that his rival Jeff Bezos's ex-wife MacKenzie Scott has donated $16 billion to charity over five years. The world's richest person was responding to a social media post scrutinising Scott’s extensive donations and alleging that her initiatives primarily fund non-profits promoting divisive ideologies rather than addressing urgent global problems.
The post on X highlighted Scott's “trust-based philanthropy" which involves providing no-strings-attached grants to over 2,500 non-profit organisations. It also pointed out that despite her $16 billion in donations, Scott's net worth remains at $36 billion, boosted by Amazon’s rising stock prices. Musk reshared the post and wrote that he found it "concerning".
Written by entrepreneur and author John LeFevre, the post also alleged that the billionaire philanthropist's focus on causes such as racial equity, immigrant rights, and LGBTQ justice was a front for creating jobs for individuals seeking to validate their "expensive degrees."
Musk's reaction also comes at a time when he gave a "comforting reply" to Bezos's "angry post" on speculations of his wedding to fiancee Lauren Sanchez. The Amazon founder rubbished rumours of holding a $600 million wedding in Aspen, Colorado. Musk, who is widely known to share a frosty relationship with Bezos, said he wished Bezos has an "epic wedding".
"That said, I hope you do hold an epic wedding. It’s nice to know that epic events are happening somewhere in the world, even if one is not present. A world where there are amazing events somewhere is better than a world where they are happening nowhere," the Tesla and SpaceX CEO wrote.
