UPA meet ends, no decision on UP sugar crisis

Agriculture minister Sharad Pawar said: "The government is not in a position to give any money."

The UPA meeting on UP sugar crisis ended without any decision. Finance Minister P Chidambaram said decision will be taken next week.

  However, agriculture minister Sharad Pawar said: "The government is not in a position to give any money." However, he wants cane crushing to start in Uttar Pradesh, though he refused to talk to the UP government about sugarcane prices.   Also Read: UP sugar crisis: Soft loans to mills seen as face saver   Aviation minister Ajit Singh on the other hand said the government was mulling giving loans against excise paid by these sugar mills. He said any decision on the matter will have to be taken by the Cabintet.
