Ram Singh is the 16th accused to be arrested following recovery of 26 kgs of heroin worth over Rs 100 crore from the house of a Canada-based NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon at Zirakpur in Mohali.

A Punjab Police release said Ram Singh was arrested for custodial interrogation after recovery of five kgs of a party drug from the house of his relative in Sangrur last Sunday. The seizure pointed towards deeper association of the boxer with the smugglers, it said.
Since the registration of case last month, Ram Singh, who was also roommate of Olympic bronze medallist Vijender at NIS Patiala, was being quizzed by police on day-to-day basis.

Vijender, whose name cropped up in the case, had denied the allegations of taking the drug even though the police maintained the pugilist took heroin on 12 occasions.
