A 35-year-old railway worker took an extraordinary measure to combat a venomous snake bite. While sleeping at his base camp after a day's work on laying railway lines in Navada, Bihar, Santosh Lohar was bitten by a snake.

Rather than succumbing to panic, he turned to an age-old belief: he bit the snake back, twice, hoping to neutralise its venom.

Driven by this local superstition, Lohar bit the snake, ultimately killing it.

However, this act of desperation quickly turned into a medical emergency. Lohar's colleagues, realising the severity of the situation, rushed him to the Rajauli subdivision hospital.
