US President Donald Trump's declaration of "now is the time for peace" just moments after announcing direct American strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites has ignited a firestorm of criticism across social media platforms. Netizens swiftly branded the move as a major threat to global stability, questioning the sincerity of his call for peace in the wake of escalating military action.

On Sunday, President Trump took to Truth Social to confirm that US forces had carried out "very successful" attacks on Iran's Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan nuclear facilities, stating that a "full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow." He further boasted of the American military's prowess before concluding with his abrupt pivot to peace. This came after more than a week of sustained Israeli strikes targeting Iran's air defence and nuclear infrastructure, a campaign in which the US now appears to be a direct participant. White House officials confirmed that Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu conferred following the latest strikes.

The online backlash was immediate and fierce, even among Indians. On Instagram, comedian Azeem Banatwalla (@azeembanatwalla) quipped, "Funny how the US always finds the time for peace is a few minutes after THEY have dropped bombs." Muhammed Hani (@muhdhaani) directly attributed the current instability to Washington, declaring, "The biggest threat to world peace. The United States of America." Sarah (@sarviving) succinctly captured the widespread sentiment, summarising it as "Saying 'Now is the time for peace' while dropping 3 bombs on a country is insane behaviour."

On X, American users expressed outrage and a sense of betrayal, particularly those who believed Trump’s campaign promises of ending "endless wars." Bobby (@B_O_B_B_Y) starkly commented, "Imagine dropping the world's biggest non-nuclear bombs on Iran 3X & then having audacity to say, 'Now is the time for Peace' Trump lied, he is President for War, not Peace. World War 3 has begun." Similarly, Sierra (@Sierra79206446) decried the apparent contradiction, "Insanity. Can’t believe Trump campaigned as the anti-war/peace candidate and then inserted the US into this unnecessary war."
