Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant’s pre-wedding festivities began on February 16 with a ‘Lagan Lakhvanu’ ceremony in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
Anant Ambani, the youngest son of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, had gotten engaged to Radhika Merchant in December 2022. The roka or the engagement ceremony of the couple was performed at Shrinathji Temple in Rajasthan's Nathdwara.
On Friday, the couple kickstarted their pre-wedding festivities with a ‘Lagan Lakhvanu’ ceremony, which marks the writing of the first official wedding invite. The ceremony took place in Jamnagar, where the Ambanis own a sprawling farmhouse. For the function, Merchant opted for a pastel-blue lehenga by celebrated designer Anamika Khanna.
The 29-year-old looked resplendent in her Anamika Khanna creation, which featured floral embroidery and lace embellishments. She paired the lehenga with diamond jewellery and wore her hair down with soft curls.
The couple is expected to tie the knot later this year.
Earlier, the Delhi High Court had refused to entertain a plea to direct Reliance Industries’ zoo and a trust to not hold Anant Ambani and Radhika Mechant’s wedding events while displaying the animals at the Greens Zoological, Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre (GZRRC).
GZRRC is a mega zoo being developed on 280 acres by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) at its oil refinery complex in Moti Khavdi village, about 30 km away from Jamanagar city in Gujarat.
“We find that the present petition has been filed purely on the apprehension that some injury or ill-treatment may be caused to the animals during the events scheduled from March 1 to March 3. Such sort of petition cannot be entertained simply on the basis of apprehension,” a bench of Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Girish Kathpalia said and disposed of the plea.
