Industrialist Anand Mahindra has recently acknowledged that popular beaches in India have been facing overcrowding and offered a domestic solution.
"So many complaints these days about the usual beach hotspots in India having become overcrowded due to an invasion of tourists," he wrote on X. "But the beauty of India is that there is no lack of opportunity to ‘diversify the portfolio’ of beach destinations on your bucket list!"
Many X users noted that the Mahindra Group chairperson's suggestion made sense.
"You are right, Sir. Absolutely! India has so many hidden coastal gems waiting to be explored. It is the perfect excuse to venture off the beaten path and discover serene, less crowded beaches," commented M Chandra (@mastermorality_). Another user Harish Kumar (@harishsuman) said, "India’s popular beach spots may be swarming with tourists, but the country’s true charm lies in its endless hidden shores are perfect for those willing to explore beyond the usual."
Anand Mahindra's comments also come at a time when Goa, the country's top beach destination, has been facing severe flak for its taxi mafia. Goan taxi companies are well-known for their inflated fares and a lack of metered services. Both domestic and international visitors have reported being intimidated by the taxi drivers.
The state has also reported a drastic drop in the number of international visitors due to geopolitical tensions. Israeli tourists used to frequent Goa, but that stopped after charter flights from Israel were cancelled because of unrest in the Middle East. The flow of tourists from these areas has also been hampered by the instability in Gaza and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
