French information technology firm Capgemini is working on over 300 generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) projects with clients, said its India chief executive officer Ashwin Yardi. He added that these projects have moved "way beyond proof of concepts."
“I think it's a great opportunity both for services industries to help clients leverage AI in their products revenue and then of course for our clients to use it drive their revenues,” Yardi said at the Nasscom Technology Leadership Forum (NTLF) 2024.
He further said that Gen AI has moved beyond cost savings and is starting to create additional revenue streams for clients. “Anything which impacts the revenue of a customer is always the more exciting part than saving the costs for the customer,” Yardi said.
He added one of Capgemini’s aircraft manufacturer client is using Gen AI to design the right materials to reduce the weight of the aircraft.
The pace of acceptance and adaptability to Gen AI is the main challenge rather than the technology itself, Yardi said, while responding to a question on whether organisations are doing enough to address the workforce’ cultural change.
On the question of job threats due to AI, he replied, “It's not AI which replaces a human, it's a human that is leveraging AI (and) replacing some other another human."

The IT consulting group on February 14 forecast slower revenue growth for 2024 as it expects the environment to remain soft in the first half of the year.
The firm, which offers consulting, digital, technical and engineering services, expects its revenue to grow between 0 percent and 3 percent at constant currency this year, compared with 4.4 percent growth it reported for 2023.
The world’s fourth largest IT services company also sees an operating profit margin of 13.3 percent to 13.6 percent this year, compared with 13.3 percent it reported for 2023.
