Germany-based software firm SAP SE and Niti Aayog on Tuesday signed a statement of intent to promote the government’s policy think tank’s .
As part of the agreement, SAP will set up 100 Atal Tinkering Laboratories in India this year to promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics education among secondary school children.
The states identified so far are Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
“India’s growth for the next few decades will depend on the innovations coming out of these Tinkering labs,” said Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant.
The programme will focus on technology such as Internet of Things, design thinking, introduction to programming languages and experiential science learning.
“In line with the government’s Digital India vision, this partnership with Niti Aayog is part of our ongoing effort towards promoting STEM education among the Indian youth and to equip them with future ready IT skills,” said Dilipkumar Khandelwal, managing director, SAP India.
SAP employees and volunteers will coach and mentor students in advanced technology topics, and the design lab of SAP Labs India, will provide training and allow students to gain hands on experience with technology gadgets.
