Apple’s new operating system iOS 11 drains battery at nearly thrice the speed of iOS 10, says a report by the Wandera.
Complaints regarding the low battery life emerged from customers soon after the new version was released by Apple. Even though the version impressed many with its features, enhancements and security, the low battery life became an issue for many.
Wandera, a security research firm, looked at a subset of 50,000 moderate to heavy iPhone and iPad users using iOS 10 and iOS 11 to compare the average battery decay rate over a three-day period.
The study later showed that the iOS 11 drains the battery life of a phone from 100 percent to zero far quicker than the iOS 10. While it took 240 minutes for the iOS 10 operated phones to fully drain the battery the iOS 11 phones took only 96 minutes.
The report stated that "the average decay rate for iOS 10 is 0.006958 percent per second and for iOS 11 it’s 0.01739 percent per second".
The report said that while the battery drain could be a problem for iPads and iPhones that have been recently upgraded to the iOS 11, it could be a bigger cause of concern for new iPhones. As the new sets feature Animoji and Face ID which rely heavily on the camera the battery drain will be a bigger problem.
Until Apple comes up with a solution for the problem the site suggests users to limit the use of those apps that can refresh in the background or access the user’s location.
