Bengaluru Metro services on the Purple Line (Whitefield - Challaghatta) got disrupted on Tuesday morning for nearly three hours, causing severe inconvenience to passengers including office-goers and students.
Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) officials said services between Byappanahalli and Garudacharpalya on the Purple Line were affected from 6:14 am to 9:20 am on Tuesday due to a technical snag.
"There was a communication problem in the signalling system between Byappanahalli and Garudacharpalya. Real-time status updates for various data types were unavailable. The issue was resolved at 9:20 am, and train services were normalised by 9:22 am," BMRCL executive director (operations and maintenance) AS Shankar told Moneycontrol.
Many passengers said there was a huge crowd at stations like Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Majestic and Vijayanagar.
While netizens complained about the disruptions early in the morning, BMRCL's first update came only at 8:45 am. BMRCL's official handle on X (formerly Twitter) posted: "Trains operating at a slow speed between Byappanahalli and Garudacharpalya due to a technical snag. BMRCL is operating short loop services."
At 9:33 am, BMRCL's post on X reads: "Technical snag on the Purple Line was rectified at 9:20 am, and trains are now operating at the scheduled speeds. However, it will take some additional time to normalize the cascading effects and resume operations as per the regular schedule".

Many office-goers took to social media to complain that the frequent disruption of Bengaluru Metro service, as well as the delay in intimation of disruptions, especially on the Purple Line, is making public transport less reliable.
