Ayodhya Ram Mandir Bhoomi Poojan highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is attending the 'bhoomi poojan' or groundbreaking ceremony and the foundation stone laying ceremony for Ram Temple. Wearing traditional dhoti-kurta, the prime minister deboarded an Air Force helicopter that flew him to Ayodhya from Lucknow on August 5. He was welcomed at the Saket helipad by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, among others. The ceremony will take place at the Ram Janmabhoomi, or the birthplace of Lord Ram, by 175 people, who figure in a select guest list of seers and politicians. Prior to the function, the prime minister and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took part in 'pooja' and 'darshan' at Hanumangarhi temple. From Hanumangarhi, he travelled to 'Shree Ram Janmabhoomi' where he offered prayers to 'Bhagwan Shree Ramlala Virajman' and performed the groundbreaking ceremony. Later, he unveiled a plaque to mark the laying of the foundation stone and also release a commemorative postage stamp on 'Shree Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir.
Concerned over the spread of coronavirus, the authorities are encouraging others not to come to the temple town, asking them to mark the occasion by celebrating at their homes. The groundbreaking ceremony will be telecast live. Catch the highlights here:

Hailing Lord Ram as "Imam-e-Hind" (prelate of India), some Muslim devotees of Lord Ram watched the entire bhoomi pujan ceremony in Ayodhya on Wednesday live on their TV sets as they could not go there due to the coronavirus health protocols.
Underlining the country's tradition of syncretic co-existence, they said once the coronavirus situation improves they would visit the temple site and offer their services in its construction.

Zameer Raza, a resident of Bareilly, feels that the day has come after a lot of efforts. "In fact, I feel that it is a double Eid for us."
Shanno Khan said, "Once the COVID-19 crisis is over, and the construction work of Ram temple in Ayodhya commences, I along with my family members and friends will go to participate in kar seva."

The construction of the grand Ram temple at Ayodhya, whose 'bhoomi pujan' was performed on Wednesday, is expected to be completed in the next three years, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) said.
VHP international president Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje said there is enthusiasm among Hindus across the world over the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Ram temple.
"The smooth manner in which the work of temple construction has been going on after the formation of Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra by the central government is amazing," he said.
He said, "We hope that the Ram temple in Ayodhya will be completed in three years."

Colourful lights and saffron flags adorned temples in the national capital and chants of "Jai Shri Ram" rent the air as devotees thronged them to perform special puja on the occasion of ground-breaking ceremony for a Ram temple in Ayodhya.
At a Chattarpur temple, devotees started arriving around 6 am, just after the morning puja ended, temple's administrator Kishor Chawla said.
"A puja has been going on non-stop for three days. The 'Ram darbar' has been decorated. A replica of 'shila' (foundation stone) has been prepared and it will be sent to Ayodhya along with other material," he said.
Thirty-two pandits performed a special puja amid beating of dholaks and tambourines and recital of bhajans.
