Who is Mohan Singh Bisht, BJP leader who defeated AIMIM, AAP in Delhi's Muslim-dominated Mustafabad

Bharatiya Janata Party's Mohan Singh Bisht emerged victorious in Muslim-dominated Mustafabad, a constituency that was worst hit during the 2020 Delhi riots.

Mustafabad has a strong presence of Muslims that comprises almost 40% of the total population.

AIMIM fielded former AAP councillor and 2020 Delhi riots accused Tahir Hussain from the seat while AAP had fielded Adeel Ahmad Khan. Mohan Singh Bisht claiming victory despite all odds shows that BJP's decision to trust him paid off.

Bisht secured his first electoral victory in 1998 as an MLA in 1998 from Karawal Nagar assembly seat. He retained this Delhi seat till 2015, the year he lost it to Kapil Mishra. At that time the internal surveys of the BJP suggested that voters of Karawal Nagar preferred Mishra’s Purvanchali background.
