An express train carrying around 200 UP Police Recruitment Exam candidates split into two parts early Sunday morning, leaving its last eight coaches stranded on tracks in Bijnor.
The incident happened around 4 am and the detached coaches eventually came to a halt near Raipur village, causing confusion and anxiety among the passengers.
According to officials, last eight bogies of the Ganga Sutlej Express separated near Chakrajmal. No passengers were injured in the incident.
Railway officials and local police had to make arrangements for the candidates to transport them to their exam centers in three buses.
Railway officials attributed the decoupling of the coaches to a “technical glitch.”
The eight detached coaches were left stranded between Chakrajmal and Raipur villages. Initially unaware of the cause, passengers were concerned as they found themselves isolated from the rest of the train.
The express train (13308), which departed from Firozpur at 4.15 pm on Saturday, was scheduled to arrive at Bijnor’s Dhampur station at 2.22 am on Sunday. However, due to unforeseen delays, it reached Dhampur at 3.35 am. The train was expected to arrive at Seohara station at 3.50 am, but the engine and 14 attached coaches only arrived at Seohara around 5.20 am. By 7.30 am, the train had been reconnected and resumed its journey, railway records mentioned.
