The Thackeray cousins appear set to join hands for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls, with an alliance announcement likely on Tuesday, reported CNN News18.
Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena and the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) have been engaged in hectic, last-minute talks to firm up a tie-up for next month’s high-stakes civic elections in Mumbai, reported PTI.
While leaders from both sides have maintained that discussions are over, no formal announcement has been made yet.
On Monday, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut met MNS president Raj Thackeray, while MNS leader Bala Nandgaonkar visited Matoshri, the residence of Uddhav Thackeray, for talks. Both are considered trusted aides of their respective party chiefs.
Sources said negotiations have hit a hurdle over seat-sharing in pockets where both parties have a strong base, including Dadar, Sewree, Vikhroli and Bhandup.
The filing of nomination papers for the BMC polls begins on Tuesday and will continue till December 30.
Elections to 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai, are scheduled for January 15, with counting of votes set for the following day.
