Following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in the state, the Election Commission on Friday published the integrated draft electoral roll for Tamil Nadu on December 19.
The SIR process involved detailed house-to-house verification to update voter information, remove ineligible names and add new electors.
The publication of draft rolls would mean the end of the enumeration phase. However, it will then lead to another schedule involving the claims and objections period, with hearings and verification as part of the notice phase and finally arrive at the release of the final electoral rolls.
How to check your name?
Visit the Election Commission's website (voters.eci.gov.in) or the website of your state's chief electoral office: www.elections.tn.gov.in/Electoral_Services.aspx.
You can also check your name at the polling station with the booth-level officer (BLO), who keeps a copy of the electoral lists for each booth. You will be able to check the lists through the ECINET mobile app as well.
After you visit the portal, you can search using name and electoral photo identity card (EPIC) number.
What to do if your name is not there?
One needs to fill Form 6 (Voter Registration) and submit it along with ‘Annexure IV’, which is a Declaration Form. The form must be accompanied by supporting documents to prove an individual’s identity and residence.
This can be submitted online at voters.eci.gov.in or via the ECINET app as well as offline to the booth level officer (BLO).
The same can also be submitted online through the website voters.eci.gov.in or via the E-NET App.
Complaints and objections can be filed from December 23 to January 22, along with an affidavit. NRIs can use Form 6A to include their names.
The electors who wish to include their names in the draft electoral roll must attend a hearing convened by the commission. They will have to explain why their names could not be linked and submit proof of being Indian citizens, eligible for voting, according to The Telegraph.
