The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi as rain continues to lash many parts of the capital and NCR. The city is expected to remain cloudy on Sunday, with moderate rain predicted. The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 28.2 degrees Celsius, slightly below the season's normal, while the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 36 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels stood at 7.8 percent at 8:30 AM.
Weather Warnings Across States
The IMD has warned of torrential rains in several states until August 2. According to Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rain is expected in parts of Konkan and Goa on Sunday. Light to moderate rainfall is also anticipated in Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Coastal Karnataka and Odisha may experience heavy rain, while Sikkim, Northeast India, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal are expected to see light to moderate rain with occasional heavy showers.
Maharashtra Flood Situation
In Maharashtra, the Chief Minister reviewed the flood situation in Kolhapur on Sunday, instructing the district administration to provide necessary assistance to citizens. Officials have been asked to coordinate with the Karnataka government regarding the discharge of water from the Almatti Dam. The water level of the Panchganga River is expected to rise as heavy rain continues in its catchment area. Meanwhile, Mumbaikars can expect some relief as IMD has forecast moderate rainfall for the upcoming days, following 2,000 mm of rain since the monsoon began.
Casualties and Damage
Recent heavy rains have led to fatalities and damage in several states. Four people have died in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh within the last 24 hours. In New Tehri, Uttarakhand, a mother and daughter lost their lives in a landslide, while two individuals were killed by lightning in Jalaun district, Uttar Pradesh. In Maharashtra, the body of a 26-year-old man was recovered on Saturday after he was swept away by floodwaters during torrential rains in Pune on July 24. The death toll in such incidents has now reached six since Wednesday. Additionally, three people died, and two were injured when a building collapsed in Navi Mumbai on Saturday.
Rainfall Records
The IMD reported heavy to very heavy rainfall in various regions, with extremely heavy rain at isolated places in Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Western Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, South Interior and Coastal Karnataka, and Odisha. Heavy rainfall was also recorded at isolated places in Haryana-Chandigarh, East Rajasthan, East Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Mahe, Konkan and Goa, Vidarbha, and North Interior Karnataka.
